The story

Founded in 2015 as an agricultural insurance innovator targeting smallholder farmers in Africa, Pula pioneered parametric and area yield index insurance products at a price point viable for sub-$10 premiums. Over time it built out a full-stack insurtech platform — the Pula Insurance Engine — automating pricing, underwriting, and payouts across 22+ countries in partnership with global reinsurers and governments. In 2024, Pula expanded beyond pure insurance into adjacent data services including EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) traceability and supply-chain compliance, positioning itself as an agricultural data and climate risk infrastructure provider for governments, agribusinesses, and development partners.
