The story

Founded as a light bulb manufacturer in 1891, Philips progressively diversified into consumer electronics, healthcare equipment, and domestic appliances over the 20th century. In the 2010s, the company executed a major strategic pivot — spinning off its lighting business as Signify in 2016 and divesting its domestic appliances unit in 2021 — to concentrate exclusively on health technology. Today Philips operates an in-house bank in the Netherlands to centralise treasury, netting, and FX management, and runs Philips Capital to provide embedded equipment-financing solutions to healthcare providers and channel partners globally.
