The story

Founded 2005 as a prepaid-card-based payout solution for global freelancers and marketplaces (Upwork, Fiverr, Amazon sellers). Has steadily expanded from payouts-only into a full multi-currency operating account for cross-border SMBs — adding working capital (Capital Advance), commercial cards, online checkout, workforce management/EOR, and tax form collection. Going public via SPAC in 2021 funded a deliberate move upmarket toward a deeper financial OS for cross-border SMBs. 2025–2026 marks a major strategic pivot: applying for a US national trust bank charter (PAYO Digital Bank, N.A.) to operate stablecoin infrastructure, and partnering with Stripe on checkout — signalling a shift from licensee-of-banks toward a directly-regulated, stablecoin-native cross-border bank.
