Paylocity

Can a mid-market HCM platform evolve into the full financial and people OS for employers by layering payroll tax, corporate cards, AP automation, global payroll, and benefits into a single suite?

The story

Founded as a cloud-based payroll and HCM provider targeting mid-market US employers, Paylocity spent its first decade building out a comprehensive HR suite (payroll, benefits, time & labor). The 2021 acquisition of Airbase brought spend management and AP automation into the platform, marking a clear move to become a financial OS for HR-centric finance teams. By 2023-2024, Paylocity was issuing its own corporate cards, automating AP, and expanding into global payroll with treasury management — effectively layering embedded finance products on top of its core HCM business.
