OKX

Can OKX transform from the world's second-largest crypto exchange into a full-stack crypto-native financial platform — trading, payments, lending, and cards — that captures the everyday financial life of crypto users globally?

The story

Founded in 2017 as a crypto derivatives exchange (OKEx), OKX rebranded in 2021 and pivoted toward a broader Web3 super-app vision. After building the world's second-largest spot/derivatives exchange by volume, the company began layering embedded finance: first with crypto-backed loans and a self-custody wallet, then with OKX Pay and OKX Card as stablecoin payment products targeting everyday utility. The 2025 EU Payment Institution license and 2026 Mastercard/Visa card launches mark a deliberate shift from pure-play exchange toward a crypto-native financial services platform.
