“Can a bank owned by IKEA turn retail point-of-sale credit into pan-European embedded consumer finance infrastructure?”
Ikano Bank was spun out of the IKEA sphere in 1995 as a consumer finance bank, providing sales finance to large retailers (IKEA, Volkswagen, Audi, Lindex, Shell) alongside consumer savings and loans. Its embedded-finance angle sits in retail point-of-sale credit — private label cards, instalment loans and BNPL — across the Nordics, UK, Germany, Poland and Austria. In 2024 ownership consolidated back under Ingka Investments.
