The story

Founded in 2013 as a tech-enabled freight forwarder, Flexport built an API-first platform to modernize the opaque global logistics industry. From 2019 onward it expanded into embedded financial services—first cargo insurance, then trade finance through Flexport Capital—layering working capital products directly into the freight booking workflow. The 2023 acquisition of Shopify's logistics assets signaled a pivot toward full-stack e-commerce supply chain services including fulfillment. The core embedded finance thesis is that a company with real-time supply chain data visibility is uniquely positioned to underwrite and deliver financing at key points in the product lifecycle.
