The story

Embed was founded in 2022 in Amsterdam as a crypto-native payments platform targeting vertical SaaS companies that wanted to accept both fiat and crypto. Facing what its acquirer later described as an 'unfavourable regulatory environment for blockchain-based payments,' Embed pivoted to a traditional embedded Payments Infrastructure-as-a-Service model. In June 2026 it was acquired by US fintech OpenFX, primarily to gain its Dutch Payment Institution licence (with EU passporting) and its UK EMI as the platform for OpenFX's European expansion.
