Digio

Can a Bradesco-owned digital bank win by becoming the embedded banking rail behind large Brazilian consumer platforms (Uber) instead of competing head-on with Nubank?

The story

Digio began in 2013 as a Bradesco / Banco do Brasil joint venture and pivoted to a mobile-first credit card in 2016, then to a full digital account with Pix, marketplace and rewards. After Bradesco bought out BB's stake in 2021, Digio became Bradesco's digital-native subsidiary and has since moved toward embedded finance — most visibly powering the Uber Conta for Uber drivers and couriers in Brazil.
