The story

Founded in 2018 by Matin Tamizi as a fintech offering no-fee digital banking for underserved Mexicans, Cuenca began as an unlicensed payment processor (Tamizi S.A. de C.V.) operating under transitional FinTech Law provisions. It secured its IFPE (Electronic Payment Funds Institution) license from CNBV, transforming into a fully regulated entity. The company has extended from a consumer neobank to also offering a BaaS/API layer ('Cuenca API' on apis.io) enabling SPEI transfers, debit card issuing, CLABE accounts, and KYC for third-party fintechs — positioning itself as both a consumer product and embedded infrastructure provider in Mexico.
