Founded in 2020 as a no-code automated trading platform for retail investors, Composer allows users to build, backtest, and deploy algorithmic investment strategies called Symphonies without writing code. The company established its own broker-dealer (Composer Securities LLC) and relies on Alpaca Securities and Apex Clearing as clearing partners rather than building its own clearing infrastructure. Over time it expanded from individual taxable brokerage accounts to IRAs, added an API layer for programmatic access, and integrated KYC provider Footprint and open-banking aggregator Plaid to streamline onboarding and funding.
