Founded in 1999 in Olympia, Washington as a grassroots platform helping friends sell handmade goods online. Grew into a global independent art, cards, books, and gifts marketplace distributing and publishing work from thousands of artists worldwide, and relocated to Portland, Oregon. As the business scaled, payment and tax complexity emerged as the key operational challenge, leading to a deeper embedding of Stripe products including Payments, Tax, Radar, Billing, and Invoicing. Buyolympia now operates as a small but internationally reaching e-commerce platform underpinned almost entirely by Stripe's suite.
