The story

Founded in 2017 as a consumer credit card company by a veteran banker, Brim rapidly pivoted to a Platform-as-a-Service model, positioning itself as white-label card and payments infrastructure for banks, credit unions, and fintechs. The company distinguished itself as the only fintech in Canada licensed to issue credit cards, which became a regulatory moat enabling its B2B enterprise play. By 2021–2022, Brim shifted its growth thesis from direct-to-consumer cards to powering other institutions' card programs, partnering with Mambu for banking-layer integration and Mastercard for US expansion — evolving from a fintech card issuer into a full embedded finance infrastructure platform.
