“Can a card-free BNPL app become the dominant consumer credit infrastructure layer for the Philippines' large unbanked population, expanding from e-commerce into offline retail and broader digital financial services?”
Founded in 2017 as a card-free BNPL product for e-commerce shoppers on Lazada, BillEase targeted the large unbanked/underbanked Filipino population where credit-card penetration is below 5%. It progressively expanded from single-merchant BNPL to a broader digital consumer finance app offering personal loans, e-wallet top-ups, bills payment, and mobile load. From 2023 onward, BillEase deepened its credit decisioning infrastructure through employment data integrations and moved aggressively into offline commerce via QRPh and POS terminal integrations with Maya Business, positioning itself as a universal BNPL acceptance layer across both online and brick-and-mortar channels.
BillEase processes payments through Xendit, DragonPay, Maya Business, Alipay+, PayRex and HitPay.
The Embedded Finance Index 2026 maps 3 layers in BillEase's stack: Payments / PSP (Xendit, DragonPay, Maya Business, Alipay+ and 2 others); Lending (BillEase BNPL installment plan, BillEase personal loan, BillEase credit line (up to PHP 40,000), 0% APR select merchant offers and 3 others); Unified APIs (Smile API).
