“Can a telco-backed MENA fintech super app become the primary financial OS for both consumers and SMEs across the Gulf, leveraging open banking, remittance rails, and embedded investing to displace traditional bank relationships?”
Founded in 2022 as the fintech arm of Bahrain's national telecom operator (Batelco/Beyon Group), Beyon Money launched as a consumer super app focused on international remittances, prepaid cards, and open banking in MENA. The company quickly expanded into UAE via an ADGM-regulated entity, and pivoted from pure remittance toward a broader financial OS by adding investment products (Flexi Invest/Flexi Savings), and then launched a B2B arm (Beyon Money Business) targeting SME spend management and corporate cards in 2024. The embedded finance stack leverages telco distribution and regulatory licenses in both Bahrain and ADGM to compete in the digitally underserved MENA remittance and SME banking market.
