“Can a small Brazilian bank charter become the licensed rails underneath a generation of Brazilian fintechs and cross-border payment platforms?”
Banco Topázio began as a small traditional Brazilian bank chartered in 2005 and reinvented itself around 2019 as a B2B API-first bank specialized in FX (câmbio) and Bank-as-a-Service. Rather than compete with neobanks for retail deposits, it rents its banking licence to fintechs, payment institutions and cross-border players — a strategy validated when EBANX acquired ~30% of the bank in 2021 to secure FX and settlement capacity for its LatAm payments franchise.
