“Can a digital-first Brazilian bank successfully pivot from retail/BaaS innovation into a focused wholesale bank serving Corporate, Agribusiness and Middle-market clients?”
Founded 2011 as J&F Group's banking arm, Banco Original made an early bet on digital — launching one of Brazil's first fully digital accounts and pioneering chatbot banking via WhatsApp/Messenger in 2016, followed by a BaaS platform in 2019. By 2024, however, the bank executed a major strategic pivot: exiting the retail (PF) segment entirely and migrating individual customers to PicPay, refocusing exclusively on wholesale banking (Corporate, Agronegócio, Middle-market). The 2024–2025 period has been about restructuring, capital strengthening (R$1bn in subordinated debt), and run-off of legacy retail exposures.
