“Can a marketplace-owned consumer credit business scale to bank-like loan volumes without a bank licence, using mass receivables financing as the funding rail?”
Allegro Pay was spun up in 2020 as the in-house consumer credit / BNPL arm of Polish marketplace Allegro, the largest European-origin e-commerce platform. It has since extended into SME and seller financing (Allegro Merchant Finance / Allegro Kapitał, Allegro Pay Business) and built bank-scale lending without a banking licence by combining KNF consumer-credit registration with a Santander-arranged mass receivables financing programme that lets it sell consumer loan portfolios off-balance-sheet while continuing to originate.
