“Can a mobile-first agri-tech platform become the embedded financial and market infrastructure for smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa?”
Founded in 2015 as an agri-tech company digitizing Uganda's agricultural value chains, Akorion built EzyAgric to give smallholder farmers access to inputs (Agrishop), farm records, extension services, and market linkages via mobile. A 2019 strategic investment from MFS Africa (pan-African fintech) and K+S AG (fertilizer multinational) accelerated the platform's financial services layer. The company subsequently embedded collateral-free agricultural credit (EzyCredits) directly into the farmer workflow, positioning EzyAgric as an end-to-end agricultural financial OS rather than a simple marketplace.
