Zelle (early Warning Services)

Can Early Warning Services — owned by the seven largest U.S. banks — extend Zelle's real-time domestic payment dominance into international corridors via stablecoins while simultaneously monetizing its fraud-and-identity backbone through a standalone brand (Certos)?

The story

Early Warning Services began as a bank-owned fraud and identity risk bureau serving financial institutions for nearly three decades. In 2017 it pivoted to operate the Zelle Network — an open-loop, real-time P2P payment network embedded inside the mobile banking apps of 2,400+ U.S. financial institutions — which rapidly became the dominant domestic bank-to-bank payment rail. In 2025, Early Warning announced a stablecoin-based initiative to extend Zelle internationally, and in 2026 it relaunched its legacy risk intelligence capabilities as a dedicated brand, Certos, positioning the company as a three-brand fintech (Zelle, Paze, Certos) rather than a single-product payments network.
