“Can a regulated P2P marketplace remain the credible non-bank alternative for Mexico's underbanked credit demand as larger fintechs and neobanks move into consumer lending?”
Yotepresto (operating entity Comunidad de Préstamos, S.A.P.I. de C.V.) was founded in 2014 as a peer-to-peer lending marketplace targeting underbanked Mexicans who pay punitive bank rates. Following the 2018 Ley Fintech, it became one of the first companies authorized as an Institución de Financiamiento Colectivo (P127/2021), regulated by CNBV, Condusef and Banxico. Its product remains narrow — personal/business loans up to MXN $425,000 funded by retail investors starting at MXN $200 — but it now reports over 4M registered users and >MXN $5B in loans originated.
