Wells Fargo Deploy

Can Wells Fargo become the embedded financial infrastructure layer for regional banks, fintechs, and commercial clients by distributing its balance sheet, FX, lending, and payment capabilities via APIs?

The story

Wells Fargo is one of the four largest US national banks, operating consumer banking, commercial banking, corporate and investment banking, and wealth management. In recent years the bank has strategically invested in developer-facing infrastructure — the Wells Fargo Gateway — to embed its payments, FX, lending, and account data capabilities into third-party platforms and fintech partners. The 2023 ChargeAfter partnership and 2025 Derivative Path FX partnership illustrate a deliberate move to distribute Wells Fargo financial products through embedded channels rather than solely through its own branches and digital properties.
