The story

Founded in 2008 as a peer-to-peer errand marketplace, TaskRabbit evolved into the leading on-demand home-services platform before being acquired by IKEA in 2017, deepening its focus on furniture assembly and home setup tasks. The IKEA ownership enabled international expansion across Europe and Canada. Post-acquisition, TaskRabbit expanded via M&A (acquiring Dolly in 2022) and began layering embedded finance on top of its marketplace — Stripe for payment processing and Tasker payouts, Persona and Checkr for KYC/identity, Cachet/Hiscox for gig-worker insurance in Europe, and a lending partnership through Dolly for driver working capital. A Partner API launched in 2025 positions TaskRabbit as an embeddable home-services layer for third-party e-commerce checkouts.
