“Can a point-of-sale residential solar lending platform scale a $15B loan book funded by third-party bank capital while surviving the interest-rate and policy volatility that defines clean-energy consumer finance?”
Founded in 2010 as a crowdfunding marketplace allowing retail investors to fund commercial solar projects — essentially 'Kickstarter for solar'. In 2014, pivoted sharply to become a pure residential solar point-of-sale lending platform, connecting homeowners with solar installers and underwriting fixed-rate installment loans of 10–25 years funded by third-party capital partners (including Truist Bank and WebBank). Grew to over $15 billion in funded loans and 500,000+ households before elevated interest rates, federal clean energy policy uncertainty, and failed refinancing efforts triggered a Chapter 11 filing in June 2025. Acquired out of bankruptcy by Solar Servicing LLC (Forbright Bank subsidiary) in September 2025 with no plans to originate new loans.
