The story

Founded in 2009 as Tiny Speck to build a massively multiplayer online game (Glitch), the team's internal communication tooling proved more valuable than the game itself. After Glitch was shut down in 2012, the founders pivoted to launch Slack in 2013 as a standalone enterprise messaging platform. Slack grew explosively through product-led growth, going public via direct listing in 2019, before being acquired by Salesforce in 2021 for $27.1B — embedding it into the broader Salesforce ecosystem. Post-acquisition, Slack has become Salesforce's collaboration layer and a distribution channel for Salesforce AI products including Agentforce.
