PAYBACK began as Germany's flagship multi-partner loyalty coalition program in 2000, operated by Loyalty Partner GmbH (headquartered in Munich). It was acquired by American Express in 2011, giving it global backing and deeper card integration capabilities. Over time, PAYBACK expanded beyond a points/rewards program into embedded financial products — most visibly through a prepaid card program on the American Express network powered by i2c and Keo. The company operates in multiple markets (Germany, Poland, India, Mexico, Italy) and continues to deepen its fintech infrastructure layer beneath the loyalty wrapper.
