The story

NatWest Boxed was spun out of NatWest Group in 2022 as a standalone tech-led BaaS division, building on the technology platform originally developed for Mettle (NatWest's digital SME bank). The venture combined Vodeno's cloud-native banking technology with NatWest's UK banking licence and balance sheet, turning what had been an internal cost center into an external embedded-finance offering. Today NatWest Boxed underwrites financial products for non-financial brands (AA, Saga, Sainsbury's) and is expanding from savings/personal loans into POS lending.
