The story

Founded 2004 as a money transfer service for African migrants sending remittances home, Mukuru has steadily evolved into a 'next-generation financial services platform' with 16M+ customers across 50+ countries. Built out adjacent products — Mukuru Card, Mukuru Wallet, MukuruPay, Funeral Cover — to deepen wallet share beyond remittance. In October 2025 added lending via JUMO partnership, marking a strategic move from pure cross-border payments toward a full financial services suite for Africa's underbanked.
