The story

Lunar launched as a Nordic digital bank (neobank) serving consumers with a mobile-first banking app in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. It progressively expanded into SMB banking, launching business accounts, company cards, and expense management. In 2023-2024 it began monetizing its proprietary clearing infrastructure by opening it to third parties via Banking Services, culminating in the December 2024 announcement of Moonrise — a standalone BaaS entity that provides Nordic accounts, real-time payments, and API access to regulated fintechs and PSPs. Simultaneously, Lunar launched embedded lending for SMEs via a tripartite partnership with Froda and Visa, diversifying revenue beyond interchange and subscription fees.
