Kompasbank Facilitate International Trade

Can a Denmark-only digital SME bank become the financial OS for small and medium-sized businesses by assembling best-in-class embedded finance partners — credit, FX, international payments — without building the infrastructure itself?

The story

Kompasbank launched as Denmark's first fully independent digital bank for SMEs, differentiating through fast loan processing and a no-branch model. It progressively expanded beyond credit into a broader SME financial OS by adding savings accounts, FX/international payments (via Ebury), and modern payment infrastructure (via Banking Circle). The 2024 Ebury partnership marks a deliberate shift toward becoming the primary financial platform for Danish SMEs engaged in international trade, bundling FX, multi-currency accounts, and cross-border payments under its own brand.
