Hospitable started in 2016 as Smartbnb — a simple Airbnb messaging automation app built by founder Pierre-Camille Hamana for his own rental. It expanded into a full short-term rental property management platform, rebranding to Hospitable and adding channel management, dynamic pricing, direct booking sites and AI. Crucially, Hospitable rejected the VC playbook: it is 100% customer- and employee-funded, raising community capital via a $HOST token in 2025. The embedded-finance surface is narrow — guest payment collection via Stripe and Hospitable's own Direct Premium PSP, identity verification through Trustd.ai, and QuickBooks accounting sync — all in service of the vacation-rental host workflow rather than as a fintech product line.
