The story

GCash began in 2004 as Globe Telecom's SMS-based remittance product, then was reorganized in 2015 under Mynt as a smartphone-era e-wallet. Ant Group's 2017 investment imported Alipay's super-app playbook — payments, savings, credit, insurance, investments, and crypto bundled in one app. With 94M users it is now the dominant Filipino fintech, with Fuse Lending as its credit arm and a growing cross-border / FX layer. Strategically it is becoming the financial OS of the Philippines, supported by MUFG/Ayala capital and Ant tech.
