“Can a YC-backed fintech become the default financial infrastructure for emerging-market freelancers and remote workers who earn in USD but live outside the traditional US banking system?”
Founded in 2022 as Bloom Financial Technologies under YC W22, the company originally aimed to help Sudanese users protect their wealth domestically. Following the political crisis in Sudan, it pivoted and rebranded to Elevate Pay, expanding its mission to serve freelancers, remote workers, and founders across emerging markets broadly. The core embedded-finance thesis became: issue USD bank accounts (backed by a US sponsor bank) to workers in underserved markets who receive income from global platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, Deel, and Remote — solving the gap between global income and local financial infrastructure. The company is now layering on FX payouts, SEPA, remittances, and a forthcoming debit card to become a comprehensive financial OS for the globally mobile emerging-market workforce.
