“Can a cloud-native SME business bank capture Denmark's underserved mid-market by combining fast digital lending with modern transaction banking infrastructure — payments, FX, and leasing — without building its own payment scheme participation or compliance systems?”
kompasbank launched in Denmark as the country's first fully cloud-only independent business bank, built specifically to serve SMEs that had poor access to financing and advisory services from incumbent banks. It went live on Mambu's cloud-native SaaS platform and rapidly scaled its SME lending book. By 2024, it expanded beyond pure lending into transaction banking — launching FX trading, multi-currency accounts, and leasing products — and partnered with Banking Circle to access international payment rails and SEPA Instant without building direct scheme participation itself. The compliance stack was simultaneously automated through Spektr to make digital onboarding scalable at speed.
