The story

Bumpa started as a mobile-first retail automation tool for African SMBs in 2021, focused on helping merchants digitize storefronts and manage online sales. Since the 2022 Base10-led seed, the company has progressively layered embedded finance on top of its commerce OS: cross-border payment acceptance via Stripe (2025), a settlement wallet with interest-bearing balances (2025), and merchant working-capital loans via Vendorcredit (2026). The trajectory mirrors Shopify's playbook — own the merchant operating layer, then monetize payments, banking, and lending on top.
