The story

Founded 2010 as an SME-focused marketplace, Bukalapak expanded into digitizing warungs (family-owned kiosks) through its Mitra programme, becoming a key player in Indonesia's offline-to-online commerce. Post-IPO in 2021 (when it lost much of its market value), the company doubled down on financial services — launching BukaTabungan with Standard Chartered's nexus BaaS in 2022, embedding lending via Bank Mandiri and Modal Rakyat, and building out BukaFinancial as a distinct business unit covering insurance, gold, and investments.
