Assetmark

Can a TAMP-era wealth management platform become the full financial infrastructure layer — custody, lending, cash management, and in-plan retirement advice — for independent financial advisors?

The story

AssetMark was founded as a turnkey asset management platform (TAMP) for independent financial advisors, providing investment models, portfolio analytics, and custodial services. Over time it built out AssetMark Trust Company as an integrated custodian, enabling FDIC-insured cash management and securities-backed lending alongside core advisory services. The firm has gradually expanded its product suite to include in-plan retirement advice through SDBAs, making it a more comprehensive financial infrastructure provider for RIAs rather than a pure investment manager.
