The story

Founded in 1926 as an Alberta automotive club focused on roadside assistance, AMA has evolved over nine decades into a diversified member-services organization serving over one million Alberta residents. Its product portfolio now spans travel, automotive services, government business registries, banking and insurance, and Alberta's largest driver education school. By 2022, the organization recognized that legacy payment infrastructure across hundreds of locations was creating friction, prompting a modernization effort with Hiveway and Stripe as the core embedded-payments stack. On the insurance side, AMA's insurance subsidiary AMAIC launched an innovative mileage-based UBI product powered by IMS telematics in 2024, reflecting a broader shift toward usage-based, data-driven financial products.
