The story

Founded 2016 as a digital-first general insurer in India, ACKO built its business on direct online distribution of motor and bite-sized insurance products, leveraging an IRDAI license obtained in 2017. After becoming a unicorn in 2021 with backing from Amazon and General Atlantic, ACKO expanded vertically into corporate health, then retail health and travel, and most recently life insurance — positioning itself as a full-stack consumer insurance platform. Its embedded-finance angle is its enterprise API offering, which lets fintechs and platforms (Lendingkart, EaseMyTrip, MoneyTap) embed ACKO-underwritten insurance — credit life, trip, gig, electronics, cyber — directly into their products.
